The second edition of the India-Mozambique-Tanzania Trilateral Exercise, IMT TRILAT 24, concluded successfully in Nacala, Mozambique on March 28th, 2024. This week-long exercise aimed to strengthen maritime cooperation and interoperability among the navies of India, Mozambique, and Tanzania.
IMT TRILAT 24: Key Highlights
Harbour Phase (21-24 Mar 24):
- Intensive training sessions onboard INS Tir at Zanzibar and INS Sujata at Maputo.
- Training included Visit, Board, Search and Seizure (VBSS), Damage Control, Firefighting Drills, communication procedures, and medical lectures.
- Emphasis on CPR demonstration and casualty evacuation (CASEVAC).
Sea Phase (24 Mar 24 onwards):
- INS Tir and INS Sujata embarked sea riders from Tanzanian and Mozambique Navies.
- Joint operations with Mozambique Naval ship Namatili and Tanzanian naval ship Fatundu.
- Simulated VBSS exercises, night manoeuvres, and joint surveillance of EEZ off Tanzania and Mozambique.
Closing Ceremony:
- Held onboard INS Tir and INS Sujata at Nacala, Mozambique with representatives from all three navies.
- Highlighted successful collaboration, understanding of maritime capabilities, and shared objectives achieved during the exercise.
- Emphasized continued collaboration towards maritime security and regional stability.
Additional Activities:
- Various official and training exchanges, cross deck visits, sport fixtures, and Yoga sessions.
- Outreach activities at Zanzibar, Maputo, and Nacala, engaging more than 1500 people including school children and Indian diaspora.
- Visits to Mizzizini orphanage center at Zanzibar and Obra Dom Orio Reception Centre at Maputo to foster bonds of friendship.
