International Gita Mahotsav 2024: A Celebration of Culture, Spirituality, and Global Unity

A Grand Cultural Event The International Gita Mahotsav will be celebrated from November 28 to December 15, 2024, in Kurukshetra, Haryana, promising a grand display of Indian heritage, spirituality, and culture. Since 2016, this event has expanded globally, spreading the message of the Bhagavad Gita and enhancing Haryana’s global presence.

Historical Significance and Global Outreach

Initiated by the Haryana Government, the Gita Mahotsav emphasizes Kurukshetra’s significance as the sacred land where the Bhagavad Gita was delivered by Lord Krishna to Arjuna. Each year, a partner country is selected to collaborate, ensuring the Gita’s message reaches international audiences. In 2024, Tanzania will be the partner country, reflecting the festival’s global influence, while Odisha has been chosen as the partner state, further promoting inter-state cultural exchange.

Preparations and Cleanliness Campaign: Divya Kurukshetra

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, alongside several dignitaries including Urban Local Bodies Minister Vipul Goyal and Gita scholar Swami Gyananand Maharaj, led the event’s preparatory meeting. Special emphasis was placed on the cleanliness of Kurukshetra during the event, as part of the Divya Kurukshetra initiative, ensuring visitors, especially from abroad, experience the city in its purest form. The CM will actively participate in this cleanliness drive, engaging the youth, religious organizations, and Resident Welfare Associations.

Main Events: A Spiritual Journey

The main festival events are scheduled between December 5 and 11, with the Mahaparva (grand celebration) on December 11. The Mahotsav will include spiritual discourses, Gita recitations, cultural performances, and art exhibits, engaging thousands of pilgrims, devotees, and international visitors. A national-level exhibition is planned, with live broadcasts from four key religious sites: Vrindavan (Uttar Pradesh), Dwarka (Gujarat), Udupi (Karnataka), and a site in Odisha. These initiatives will showcase India’s rich religious diversity, emphasizing the Gita’s universal message.

Social Media and Digital Promotion

To enhance the event’s reach, officials discussed leveraging social media and digital platforms for live updates, virtual participation, and real-time broadcasts of key events. This approach aims to connect the global audience and bring the festival’s cultural significance to those unable to attend in person.

Leadership and Dignitaries

The meeting was attended by a prestigious panel including Chief Principal Secretary to CM Rajesh Khullar, Additional Principal Secretary Amit Agrawal, Secretary of Urban Local Bodies Department Vikas Gupta, Information and Culture Department Director General K. Makrand Pandurang, and others, reflecting the high-level focus on the festival’s success. The leadership team emphasized their commitment to making the event an enriching experience for visitors and ensuring meticulous planning for each activity.
