Kumar Mangalam Birla, the 57-year-old Chairman of the Aditya Birla Group, will be conferred with the prestigious Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Award on April 24, 2024, in a grand ceremony to be held at the Deenanath Mangeshkar Auditorium in Vile Parle East, Mumbai. The award will be presented by RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat at 6:30 pm.
A Padma Bhushan awardee, Kumar Mangalam Birla is being recognized for his visionary leadership and significant contributions to India’s economic development. As a pivotal figure in shaping India’s growth story, his influence extends across diverse sectors such as cement, telecom, financial services, and textiles.
Celebrating Indian Excellence in Arts and Culture
The event marks the 83rd Memorial Day of Pandit Deenanath Mangeshkar, an iconic figure in Indian classical music. It is organised annually by the Master Deenanath Mangeshkar Smruti Pratishthan, a charitable trust established by the Mangeshkar family, which has been fostering India’s cultural legacy for over 35 years.
In addition to Kumar Mangalam Birla, this year’s ceremony will honour several other outstanding individuals from the world of Indian cinema and classical music:
- Shraddha Kapoor and Sunil Shetty will be felicitated for their impactful contributions to Indian cinema.
- Sachin Pilgaonkar and Sonali Kulkarni will be celebrated for their versatility in theatre and film, with Sonali Kulkarni specifically recognized for work that bridges emotional depth and cultural richness.
- Renowned violinist Dr. N Rajam will be honoured for her distinguished contributions to Indian classical music.

The Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Puraskar was instituted in 2022, in memory of the late legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar, to recognize individuals who have made exemplary contributions to the nation, society, and the arts. It is regarded as a tribute to India’s rich cultural and artistic heritage.
Past recipients of this honour include Prime Minister Narendra Modi, singer Asha Bhosale, and actor Amitabh Bachchan, underscoring the prestige of this annual recognition.
