Neeraj Chopra’s 2nd Best Throw Ever at Lausanne Diamond League

Neeraj Chopra delivered an impressive performance at the Lausanne Diamond League, securing his second-best javelin throw ever with a season-best distance of 89.49 meters on his final attempt. This result placed him second behind Grenada’s Anderson Peters, who threw 90.61 meters. Germany’s Julian Weber completed the podium with a throw of 87.08 meters.

Dramatic Finale and Standings

Chopra achieved his top throws during the final attempts of the night. After four throws, he was in fourth place behind Ukraine’s Artur Felfner. Neeraj’s throw of 85.58 meters moved him into the top three, which allowed him one more attempt as per Diamond League rules. Peters’ final throw of 90.61 meters set the challenge, and Chopra responded with his 89.49-meter throw.

Recent Achievements and Injury Challenges

Chopra’s second-place finish is noteworthy, especially following his silver medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics, where he competed against Arshad Nadeem. He had recently discussed the impact of a groin injury, which has affected both his physical performance and mental focus. Despite the injury, Chopra managed two of his top three throws at the Paris Olympics, including an 89.34-meter throw in qualifying and an 89.45-meter throw for silver.

Future Plans and Injury Management

Reflecting on his career, Chopra noted the importance of continuing his season post-Tokyo Olympics and how the injury has influenced his performance. He plans to complete the season while managing his groin injury and will consider treatment upon returning to India.
