Odisha Govt Increases Casual Leave for Women Employees

The Odisha government has increased the casual leave entitlement for women employees to 27 days annually, adding 12 extra days for menstrual leave. This follows an earlier provision of 10 additional days, aimed at addressing family and health concerns.

In a significant move, the Odisha government has announced an increase in the casual leave (CL) entitlement for women employees, granting an additional 12 days annually, effective immediately. This brings their total CL to 27 days, compared to 15 days for male employees. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi directed the increase, following Deputy CM Pravati Parida’s earlier Independence Day announcement of one paid menstrual leave per month for women staff.

Past Leave Policies

Previously, women employees in Odisha were entitled to 10 additional CL days since March 2024, under the BJD government, to accommodate family responsibilities and health challenges. This has now been raised by 2 days.

Current Leave Entitlement

Women employees can now avail of 12 additional CL days, at a rate of one day per month, specifically for menstrual leave. This is in addition to the existing 10 regular CL days and 5 Special CL days, making the total CL for women 27 days annually.
