Operation Nader and Anti-Terror Operations in Jammu & Kashmir

In May 2025, Indian security forces carried out several important anti-terror operations in Jammu and Kashmir. These operations were launched in response to recent terrorist attacks and based on specific intelligence inputs. The forces involved were the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). These actions show India’s firm approach to tackling terrorism.

Operation Nader – Tral, Awantipora

On the morning of 15 May 2025, a joint operation was launched in the Nader area of Tral in Awantipora, Jammu and Kashmir. The operation was based on intelligence reports about the presence of terrorists in the area.

During the operation, security forces noticed suspicious movement. When they challenged the suspects, the terrorists opened heavy fire. A fierce gunfight followed. The operation is still going on. The Chinar Corps of the Indian Army shared this update on social media.

Shopian Encounter – 13 May 2025

Two days earlier, on 13 May, another major operation was carried out in the Keller Forest area of Shopian district.

Based on inputs from intelligence agencies, the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and CRPF launched a joint search. In the gunfight that followed, three terrorists were killed, including a local commander of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and The Resistance Front (TRF).

Security forces recovered weapons including AK-series rifles, a large amount of ammunition, grenades, and other war-like items.

Operation Sindoor – Cross-Border Strikes

Before these incidents, Indian forces also carried out a major cross-border strike called Operation Sindoor. This was aimed at destroying terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

In this operation, nearly 100 terrorists were eliminated. The strikes targeted major terror bases including Bhawalpur (headquarters of Jaish-e-Mohammed) and Muridke (a major base of Lashkar-e-Taiba). These precise strikes were a big success for Indian defence forces.

Pahalgam Terror Attack

The recent rise in terrorist activity was highlighted by the Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 civilians were killed. The Resistance Front (TRF), a terror group linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba, claimed responsibility for the attack.

This incident increased the urgency of the anti-terror operations in the region.

Terror Groups Involved

  1. The Resistance Front (TRF) – A terrorist group active in Jammu and Kashmir, believed to be a part of Lashkar-e-Taiba. It is banned in India.
  2. Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) – A Pakistan-based terror group, officially declared as a terrorist organization by the United Nations.
  3. Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) – Another Pakistan-based terror group responsible for several attacks in India.

Why This Is Important

  • These operations show how Indian forces are taking strong and quick action against terrorism.
  • Joint action by the Army, Police, and CRPF shows good coordination between security agencies.
  • Intelligence-based operations are helping to prevent future attacks.
  • The successful cross-border strike shows India’s capability to destroy terror bases beyond its borders.
