PM Modi Inaugurates Samrat Samprati Museum on Mahavir Jayanti

Honorable Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi has inaugurated the Samrat Samprati Museum in the Gandhinagar on his visit to Gujarat on the March 31, 2026. With this inauguration it is marking the significant step to preserving India’s rich Jain heritage. The inauguration was coincided with the auspicious occasion of the Mahavir Jayanti and with this it has added the special spiritual significance to the event. The Museum was located at the Shri Mahavir Jain Aradhana Kendra in the Koba village, Gandhinagar.

This newly inaugurated the Samrat Samprati Museum stands as the comprehensive repository of the Jain culture and their traditions.

It is named after Samprati and this museum honors the ruler who is known for spreading Jainism and promoting non-violence across his empire.

The museum houses over the nearly 2,000 rare artefacts and it is also offering the visitors a deep dive into Jain philosophy and their historical evolution.

Also intricately carved from the stone idols to the ancient manuscripts it is in every exhibit it shows the spiritual richness and artistic mastery of the Jain traditions.

Seven Galleries Showcasing India’s Spiritual and Cultural Legacy

The museum with proper idea has been divided into the seven distinct galleries and each of the gallery is focusing on different aspects of Jainism and Indian civilization.

These galleries present the,

• Ancient manuscripts and also illustration texts depicting Jain teachings
• Also the stone and metal idols which is representing Tirthankaras
• Miniature paintings, coin and silver chariots
• And the traditional artefacts which are reflecting the centuries-old craftsmanship

Samprati ruled during the 224-215 BCE and he was regarded as one of the greatest patrons of Jainism.

He was often compared to his grandfather Ashoka for his role to spreading religious values but the Samprati on the other side had focused specifically on to the Jain teachings.
