On the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel — a key figure in India’s post‑independence unification — the government of India took symbolic and substantive steps to honour his legacy. On 30 October 2025 in Gujarat, Narendra Modi (Prime Minister of India) launched a special commemorative coin and postage stamp, along with development projects worth over ₹1,219 crore.

As part of the 150th‑anniversary commemoration, the Prime Minister unveiled,

  • A special ₹150 denomination coin in honour of Sardar Patel.
  • A postage stamp issued to mark the occasion.
  • These items serve as lasting mementos to celebrate Patel’s contribution to the nation.

Development Projects in Gujarat

At the same event in Kevadia, Gujarat, the Prime Minister inaugurated and laid foundation stones for projects valued at ₹1,219 crore.

Key project highlights include,

  • Launch of a fleet of electric buses for sustainable transport.
  • Infrastructure development in the tourism and hospitality sector, including a hospitality district and a Bonsai Garden.
  • Cultural programmes and a ceremonial tribute to Patel’s legacy in nation‑building.

Symbolism & Legacy

  • Sardar Patel, known as the “Iron Man of India,” played a decisive role in integrating more than 500 princely states into the Indian Union after independence.
  • Savouring this milestone anniversary gives an opportunity to reaffirm his vision of “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat” (One India, Great India).
  • By issuing the coin and stamp, the government signals that Patel’s contributions are not only historical but remain relevant today in driving national unity.
