Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das has been recognized as the top central banker globally for the second straight year by the US-based Global Finance magazine. He was awarded an ‘A+’ grade in the prestigious Global Finance Central Banker Report Cards 2024.
Grading Criteria
The rankings are determined based on a grading scale from A to F, assessing performance in key areas such as inflation control, economic growth goals, currency stability, and interest rate management. An ‘A’ represents outstanding performance, while an ‘F’ denotes complete failure.
Global Recognition
Alongside Shaktikanta Das, Denmark’s Christian Kettel Thomsen and Switzerland’s Thomas Jordan were also awarded the ‘A+’ grade. The report highlighted the successful efforts of central bankers in combating inflation through strategies like higher interest rates, which have led to significant reductions in inflation globally.
Significance of the Report Cards
Published annually since 1994, the Central Banker Report Cards by Global Finance magazine grade central bank governors from nearly 100 countries, territories, and districts, including regions like the European Union and the West African States. The report honors those central bankers whose innovative and effective strategies have set them apart on the global stage.
