SJVN Inaugurates 50 MW Gujrai Solar Power Plant In Uttar Pradesh

SJVN Limited, a Mini Ratna, Category-I and Schedule ‘A’ Central public sector enterprise under the administrative control of Ministry of Power, Government of India, has marked a significant milestone in its journey towards sustainable energy solutions. On February 23, 2024, SJVN announced the commencement of successful commercial operations of its 50 MW Gujrai Solar Power Station in Kanpur Dehat, Uttar Pradesh.

Expansion of Renewable Portfolio

  • With the inauguration of the Gujrai Solar Power Station, SJVN’s total installed power capacity now stands at 2,277 MW.
  • This latest addition underscores the company’s commitment to expanding its renewable energy portfolio and contributing to India’s energy transition.

Execution and Financials

  • Executed by SJVN through its renewable arm, SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL), the Gujrai Solar Power Station was completed at a cost of Rs. 281 crores. The project is expected to generate an annual revenue of approximately Rs. 32 crores.
  • Initial projections suggest that the station will produce 107 million units of energy in its first year, with a cumulative energy generation estimated to reach 2,477 million units over 25 years.

Strategic Partnerships and Agreements

  • SGEL secured the grid-connected solar project in November 2022, winning the bid at a tariff of Rs. 2.98 per unit through a Tariff-based Competitive Bidding Process conducted by the Uttar Pradesh New & Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA).
  • A pivotal aspect of this success is the Power Purchase Agreement inked with Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) for a period of 25 years, ensuring long-term sustainability and stability in energy distribution.

Vision for the Future

  • Chairperson & Managing Director, Smt. Geeta Kapur, expressed SJVN’s commitment to bolstering India’s non-fossil-fuel-based energy generation.
  • She reiterated the company’s dedication to contributing towards the national goal of achieving Net Zero by 2070. This milestone aligns with SJVN’s broader vision of reaching an installed capacity of 25 GW by 2030 and 50 GW by 2040.
