Smriti Mandhana, The First Indian Woman Cricketer To Score Consecutive Centuries in ODIs

Smriti Mandhana became the first Indian woman to record two consecutive ODI hundreds during the second ODI against South Africa at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on June 19. She scripted history on June 23, after she registered the record for the most runs by an Indian woman in a bilateral One-Day International series.

Smriti Shriniwas Mandhana born 18 July 1996) is an Indian cricketer who represents the Indian women’s national team. She plays for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Women’s Premier League (WPL). In domestic cricket, she represents the Maharashtra cricket team. In June 2018, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) awarded her ‘the Best Women’s International Cricketer’ in BCCI awards. In December 2018, the International Cricket Council (ICC) awarded her with the Rachael Heyhoe-Flint Award for the best female cricketer of the year. On 30 December 2021, she became a nominee of the ICC Women’s T20 Player of the Year. In December 2021, she, Tammy Beaumont, Lizelle Lee and Gaby Lewis were nominated for the ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year. In January 2022, the ICC gave her the Rachael Heyhoe-Flint Award for the ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year.

Mandhana scored an 83-ball 90 in the third ODI against South Africa at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on June 17, to take her tally for the three-match series to 343 runs.
The left-hander scored consecutive hundreds in the first two ODIs of the series to become the first Indian woman to achieve the feat. On June 19, she fell just 10 runs short of becoming only the second batter in the world to register three back-to-back tons in the ODI format.
Following her hundred in the second ODI, Mandhana had equalled Mithali Raj’s tally for the most hundreds in ODIs by an Indian woman (7).
Mandhana’s 343 runs in the series also made her the highest scorer ever in a three-match ODI bilateral series in women’s cricket. She broke South African Laura Wolvaardt’s record, who had amassed 335 runs in three matches against Sri Lanka earlier this year.
