President Droupadi Murmu Honoured With Suriname’s Highest Civilian Award
President Droupadi Murmu became the first Indian to be honoured with the Grand Order of the Chain of the Yellow Star, the highest civilian award in Suriname. She was presented with this award by Chandrikapersad Santokhi, the President of the Republic of Suriname. President Murmu dedicated the award to the future generations of the Indian-Surinamese community.
During her state visit to Serbia and Suriname, President Murmu arrived in Paramaribo, Suriname on June 4. Several significant Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were signed between India and Suriname in the areas of health, agriculture, and capacity building. These agreements were finalized after fruitful discussions between President Murmu and President Santokhi, who both led their respective delegations.

About The Grand Order Of The Chain Of The Yellow Star
The Grand Order of the Chain of the Yellow Star (Dutch: Grootlint in de Orde van de Gele Ster) is the highest civilian award in Suriname. It was established on 25 November 1975, the day Suriname became independent from the Netherlands. The award is given to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to Suriname, either in Suriname or abroad.
The award consists of a yellow star with a gold border, suspended from a yellow ribbon with green edges. The star is surrounded by a wreath of green leaves. The award is worn on the left chest.
