In a landmark move for India’s IT industry, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), the country’s largest IT firm, announced the creation of a dedicated Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Services Transformation Unit. The company has appointed Amit Kapur, a TCS veteran with over two decades of experience, as the head of this new unit, effective September 2025.
This step comes at a time when global macroeconomic uncertainty has slowed client spending, pushing IT giants to pivot towards AI-led growth.

- Consolidate TCS’ existing AI capabilities into one structure.
- Focus on AI-driven domain solutions for global clients.
- Drive innovation and efficiency in IT operations.
- Strengthen AI partnerships and deepen reskilling of its workforce.
- TCS said in its internal memo that the initiative builds on its years of AI investment, reskilling programs, and capability expansion.

- Previously, he headed the UK and Ireland business, one of TCS’ strongest markets.
- His appointment signals TCS’ intent to place a trusted insider with global exposure at the forefront of its AI strategy.
