Before ascending to the position of UPSC Chairman, he served as a professor, imparting knowledge and wisdom in the field of international relations at Sardar Patel University (SPU), Vallabh Vidhyanagar.

In 2015, he received the World Education Congress Global Award for distance learning leadership from the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants in London, United Kingdom. Appointment as UPSC Chairman

Dr. Soni’s journey to the position of UPSC Chairman began when he joined the Commission on June 28, 2017. He assumed the role of Chairman of UPSC on 5^th April 2022, succeeding his predecessor, Pradeep Kumar Joshi. His appointment as UPSC Chairman was an evident to his dedication, knowledge and leadership qualities.
