What the NPC-MoEFCC Agreement Means for Environmental Governance

The National Productivity Council (NPC) has signed an agreement with the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) to act as the Environment Audit Designated Agency (EADA). This was signed under the Environment Audit Rules of 2025. Announced on 20 March 2026 it assigns NPC the responsibility of managing to India’s environmental audit system.

What is the NPC-MoEFCC Agreement?

The NPC Environment Audit responsibility under the MoEFCC agreement will marks a major step to strengthen India’s environmental governance framework.

NPC will manage the whole entire audit system and will ensure effective implementation of the Environment Audit Rules 2025.

This includes designing eligibility criteria for auditors, conducting certification exams and also maintaining a transparent registration system.
