Hima Das was born on 9th February 2000 in Kandhulimari, a village near Dhing in Assam. Her parents, Ronjit Das and Jonali Das, are farmers. Hima is the youngest of five siblings. She studied at Dhing Public High School, where she initially played football and dreamed of a career in the sport. However, after encouragement from a physical education teacher, she shifted her focus to sprinting.

- 2018 World U20 Championships: Hima won a gold medal in the 400 meters with a time of 51.46 seconds, making her the first Indian sprinter to win a gold in this event.
- 2018 Asian Games: She set a new Indian national record in the 400 meters by running 51.00 seconds in the heats. In the final, she improved her record to 50.79 seconds, winning a silver medal.
- 4 x 400 meters Relay: Hima also helped India win a gold medal in the mixed relay and a silver in the women’s relay at the Asian Games.
- 2019 Success: Hima continued to impress by winning gold in the 200 meters at the Poznan Grand Prix in Poland and another 200-meter gold in the Czech Republic.

Hima Das completed her 12th board exams in 2019 and is currently pursuing a B.A. degree at Cotton University in Assam. In 2021, she was appointed as a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in Assam, a prestigious position she earned through direct entry under the state’s Integrated Sport Policy.
