The Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) has successfully completed has successfully conducted the development trials of the ULPGM-V3. It is an indigenous UAV-launched precision-guided missile in both air to ground and air to air modes. This will strengthens the India’s drone warfare capabilities and push the country towards the self reliance in the defense manufacturing.
DRDO Successfully Tests Indigenous UAV Missile
DRDO has successfully carried out the final development trials of the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Launched Precision Guided Missile (ULPGM)-V3.
The tests were conducted at the DRDO test range near the Kurnool.
This trials validated the missile’s operational effectiveness in both offensive ground attack and aerial engagement roles.
This marks the important breakthrough for the India’s indigenous precision weapon systems.
What Is ULPGM-V3?
The ULPGM-V3 is an indigenous precision guided missile which is designed for the launch from unmanned aerial vehicles.
It has primarily been developed for the anti-tank warfare in air-to-ground combat scenarios.
The missile has also demonstrated effectiveness against the enemy drones, helicopters, and airborne threats in air-to-air mode.
This dual-role capability makes it flexible modern battlefield weapon.
Advanced Features of the Missile
The missile was tested using an integrated Ground Control System (GCS).
This advanced control setup enables the automated readiness checks and launch operations.
The integration will improves the accuracy, operational response and mission efficiency.
Also its UAV compatibility significantly enhances the tactical flexibility in modern combat environments.
UAV Integration and Industry Partnership
The missile system has been integrated with UAVs which are developed by NewSpace Research and Technologies, it is a Bengaluru-based company.
The development also reflects the collaboration between India’s defense research ecosystem and private defense innovation players.
This partnership also highlights the growing role of domestic industry in advanced military systems.
DRDO Labs Behind the Development
The missile was developed under the leadership of the Research Centre Imarat (RCI).
Other DRDO laboratories also involved in this projects are,
Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL)
Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory (TBRL)
High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL)
This multi-lab collaboration have helps to deliver the advanced indigenous weapon platform.
Production Partners
For the manufacturing and serial production, DRDO has partnered with the,
- Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL)
- Adani Defense & Aerospace
The Ministry of Defense has said that the missile has been developed entirely within India’s domestic defense ecosystem.
Also the several MSMEs and industrial suppliers contributed to the indigenous supply chain.
