In a landmark announcement on November 26, 2025, Digital Connexion, a joint venture of Brookfield, Reliance Industries, and Digital Realty, committed an $11 billion investment to build a 1 gigawatt (GW) AI-native data centre campus in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The facility is set to be completed by 2030, and marks one of the largest digital infrastructure projects in India’s history.
What the Project Involves
Spread over 400 acres, this massive AI data campus will be specifically designed for AI workloads, integrating cutting-edge computing technologies such as GPUs (Graphics Processing Units), TPUs (Tensor Processing Units), and other AI processors. The announcement was made during the CII Partnership Summit 2025, attended by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, IT Minister Nara Lokesh, and Reliance Executive Director P. M. S. Prasad.
The project will feature,
- High-density AI infrastructure for hyperscalers and enterprises
- Modular, scalable designs tailored for AI-native operations
- Redundant power systems and robust substations
- Advanced cooling and renewable energy integration
This development comes just weeks after Google announced its own $15 billion AI data centre campus in the same city, planned in collaboration with AdaniConneX and Airtel, highlighting Visakhapatnam’s emergence as a new digital capital.
Strategic Significance: Why Visakhapatnam?
Visakhapatnam, located on India’s east coast, is fast becoming a hub for next-generation digital infrastructure. With low-latency connectivity, access to subsea cable networks, and availability of clean energy sources, it offers the ideal ecosystem for AI-driven computing.
Digital Connexion’s and Google’s investments are poised to,
- Transform Andhra Pradesh into a major AI technology hub
- Accelerate India’s digital transformation, especially in AI and high-performance computing
- Create thousands of direct and indirect jobs in IT, infrastructure, and allied sectors
- Support Viksit Bharat 2047, India’s long-term development vision
Digital Connexion’s Growing Footprint in India
Digital Connexion already operates a data centre campus in Chennai, with another facility under construction in Mumbai’s Chandivali. These locations have been selected for their carrier-neutral connectivity and proximity to major business and tech centres.
The Visakhapatnam project will be the company’s largest in India, showcasing its commitment to building,
- AI-native infrastructure to support modern digital economies
- Sustainable, green data centres integrating renewable energy
- Scalable platforms aligned with global standards and local growth objectives
Complementing Google’s $15 Billion AI Data Hub
Earlier in October 2025, Google signed a deal with the Andhra Pradesh government to develop a gigawatt-scale AI data centre, the tech giant’s largest investment outside the US. Developed in partnership with AdaniConneX, the project also focuses on clean energy and subsea cable support, catering to high-demand AI computing needs across India.
