Apple, Google collaborate to combat creepy tracking tactics: Key Points
- These companies have jointly submitted a proposal to create standards for preventing secret surveillance on Apple’s AirTag trackers and similar products.
- While AirTags have become popular for helping users locate lost property, they have also been misused by stalkers to track unsuspecting individuals, making this joint proposal all the more necessary.
When AirTag is introduced?
- Since its 2021 introduction, the $30 AirTag has grown in popularity as a tool for people to locate a variety of lost items.
- However, stalkers have also used AirTags and comparable items to follow people who are unaware they are being tracked, including people who were once romantically involved.
By the end of this year, Apple and AirTag want to have a strategy to counter stealth tracking in place. Android and iPhone software upgrades would be used to disseminate the remedy.
