Asian Games 2026: Indian Women’s Trap Team Wins Silver

Three Indian shooters, Neeru Dhanda, Aashima Ahlawat and Manisha Keer, bagged the silver medal in the women’s trap team event in the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games 2026. The Indian team accumulated a total score of 328 after the three-day, 125 shots qualification round. China bagged the gold medal with 346 while Kuwait secured the bronze medal with 325. The medal won the Indian shooting team its thirteenth medal in the Aichi Prefectural General Shooting Gallery.

Individual Qualification Achievement for the Neeru Dhanda

After the team medal, Neeru Dhanda has also achieved the individual qualification and qualified for the individual final. She topped the women’s trap qualification round along with another shooter with a score of 118.

However, her Indian team mates, Aashima Ahlawat and Manisha Keer failed to qualify for the individual final. While Aashima scored 106 to finish in the 16th position, Manisha recorded 104 to finish in the 23rd position.

The men’s trap event was also going on where Kynan Chenai, Shapath Bharadwaj and Azhar Rizvi were participating on behalf of India.

Esha Singh Gets Silver in Women’s 25m Pistol Shooting

A day prior to that, Esha Singh clinched silver in women’s 25m pistol shooting individual category following a closely-fought final match against Xiao Jiaruixuan of China.

After being tied at 38 hits after 50 shots, equaling the record at the Asian Games, both athletes took part in a shoot-off where both got four hits in their first shoot-off before Xiao won the second shoot-off 3-2.

This was Esha’s consecutive second medal in individual 25m pistol shooting at the Asian Games. At the previous Asian Games held in Hangzhou, she also claimed silver.

Definition of Trap Shooting

Trap shooting is a discipline involving the use of shotguns to hit clay targets that have been thrown from a trap machine located before the athlete.

At the international level, shooters try to break targets that are moving in the opposite direction from them with different angles and speeds. This discipline requires speed, precision, concentration and consistency.

India’s Shooting Medals Count at Asian Games 2026

The shooting discipline has always been amongst India’s biggest medalmakers at Aichi-Nagoya. With the recent women’s trap silver, India has increased its count of shooting medals to 13.

Also adding to India’s list of shooting medals is the gold medal that Kamaljeet and Suruchi Singh won in the mixed 10m air pistol discipline. India bagged a total of 484.6 points in the final and also created an Asian record with this.

Other shooting medals include the medals from the 10m air rifle, 50m rifle 3 positions and the skeet events. India was successful in winning silver in both the men’s and women’s 50m rifle 3 positions team disciplines. In addition, the Indian men and women’s skeet team also won bronze medals.
