Pranavi Urs created history on October 3rd, 2026, when she became the first Indian woman to won a gold medal in the golf at the Asian Games. The 23-year-old golfer from Mysuru completed the four-day women’s individual event with a score of 265 (-15), winning by one shot from Singaporean Shannon Tan and Chinese Yin Ruoning, both of whom scored 266 (-14). Urs posted an even par 70 in the last day of the tournament following a triple bogey at the third hole.
How Pranavi Urs Claimed the Gold Medal
Urs started her final round with three strokes lead, having scored 4-under 66 in the third round. She however made a triple bogey at the par-4 third hole, thus erasing her lead and giving the pursuing golfers some hope.
Pranavi Urs came back strongly with three birdies on the 6th, 10th, and 13th holes, maintaining par on the rest of the holes. She posted an even-par 70 to finish the round, taking her total to 15-under 265.
Entering the last hole, Urs had a lead of one stroke. On her wayward tee shot, she followed with a perfect second shot that got her on the green where she sank two putts to post a par. This earned her the gold medal by a stroke.
India Secures Women’s Golf Team Silver
India bagged the team silver for women’s golf as well, with Pranavi Urs competing as part of the trio which also includes Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar.
The three Indians scored 14-under 546 while China clinched team gold with their score of 22-under 538. In the team event, the best two scores from each nation’s golfers in each round are used. Ashok’s score in the final round was 67 while Diksha Dagar’s score was 77.
India won another medal in the women’s golf category in the recent Asian Games. The 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games saw Aditi Ashok winning the women’s individual silver medal.
Pranavi Urs’ Pathway to the Gold Medal
Four rounds of consistency led to a score of 15-under for Urs’ gold medal.
Three shots in front heading into the final round thanks to his score of 4-under 66 in the third round, Urs kept herself close to the top in the tournament all along.
Recovery after her triple bogey on the third hole made the difference as three birdies in the final round enabled her to keep the momentum and eventually defend her lead.
