India won the silver and bronze medals in the men’s javelin throw event in the Asian Games held at Aichi-Nagoya, Japan on 28 September 2026. Yashvir Singh threw the javelin 85.72 metres to win a silver medal, while his teammate Rohit Yadav clinched a bronze medal with his distance of 84.35 metres. The champion is Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage, whose distance is 88.55 metres. The finals were played at Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium.
Yashvir Singh Wins Silver
In the final round, Yashvir Singh recorded an excellent performance, throwing the javelin 85.72m to take the second position. This throw is a personal best for Yashvir.
Yashvir earlier threw the javelin 83.56m, 82.99m and 82.42m in the final round. Besides winning this silver medal, Yashvir had previously won bronze at the Commonwealth Games of that year.
Rohit Yadav Wins Bronze Medal
Rohit Yadav won bronze medal with his best throw of 84.35m. Thus, India managed to get two athletes in the podium by earning a bronze and silver in the men’s javelin competition.
The athlete won the bronze medal despite being absent from Neeraj Chopra, who had previously won a gold medal in the same competition at the 2022 Asian Games held in Hangzhou. India won both gold and silver medals through Neeraj Chopra and Kishore Jena respectively in the 2022 event.
Rumesh Pathirage Wins Asian Games Gold Medal
Sri Lankan athlete Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage won gold medal by throwing the javelin 88.55 meters. This was an excellent performance by the thrower in his outstanding season of 2026.
He had previously won javelin gold at the 2026 Commonwealth Games and the first-ever World Athletics Ultimate Championship before this Asian Games. In addition, he had thrown over 90 meters on several occasions, even registering a Sri Lankan national record of 92.62m in the Rome Diamond League.
