Marking a significant milestone in India’s defence innovation ecosystem, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan inaugurated the inaugural Tri Services Academia Technology Symposium (T-SATS) on 22nd September 2025 at the Manekshaw Centre, New Delhi. The event is a first-of-its-kind initiative to bring together the Indian Armed Forces, academic institutions, and R&D organisations to collaboratively build next-generation, indigenous technologies for national security.
Themed “Vivek va Anusandhan se Vijay” (Victory through Wisdom and Research), T-SATS represents India’s commitment to a whole-of-nation approach in building military capabilities suited for the complexities of modern and future warfare.
Purpose and Vision of T-SATS
Building a Defence-Academia Innovation Bridge
The primary objective of T-SATS is to synergise the efforts of Services and academia in Research & Development (R&D) for defence-specific applications. It aims to,
- Encourage academic researchers and students to contribute to India’s military needs
- Facilitate collaborative technology development
- Accelerate indigenisation of critical defence systems and platforms
General Chauhan highlighted that modern warfare is increasingly shaped by a convergence of kinetic and non-kinetic threats, such as cyber warfare, AI-driven combat systems, and electronic warfare, all of which demand high-tech, adaptable solutions.
Key Features of the Symposium
Participation and Scope
- Over 62 academic institutions participated, including top-tier institutes like IISc, IITs, IIITs, and several private technology universities.
