4 Days of Chhath Puja

The festival is observed over four days, each holding deep spiritual significance.

Day 1 – Nahay Khay

Observed on: October 25, 2025

The festival begins with Nahay Khay, which marks a day of purification.
Devotees bathe in a holy river, pond, or at home using Ganga water. They wear clean clothes and eat a simple satvik meal of rice, gourd (lauki), and lentils cooked in a purified environment.
This ritual symbolizes spiritual cleansing and prepares the devotees for the upcoming fasts and prayers.

Day 2 – Kharna or Nirjala Vrat

Observed on: October 26, 2025

The second day is known as Kharna or Nirjala Vrat, where devotees observe a strict waterless fast from sunrise to sunset.
In the evening, after offering kheer (rice pudding), roti, and fruits to Lord Surya, the fast is broken.
This marks the beginning of a longer 36-hour fast that continues without food or water, showing ultimate devotion and self-control.

Day 3 – Sandhya Arghya

Observed on: October 27, 2025

This is the main day of Chhath Puja.
Devotees gather at the riverbanks or ghats with bamboo baskets filled with offerings like thekua (sweet dish), coconuts, fruits, and earthen lamps.
As the sun sets, they offer Sandhya Arghya (evening prayers) to Lord Surya, thanking him for sustaining life and praying for family prosperity, good health, and happiness.
Women sing devotional songs and hymns, creating a serene and spiritual atmosphere.

Day 4 – Usha Arghya and Parana

Observed on: October 28, 2025

On the final day, devotees offer Usha Arghya to the rising sun.
This morning prayer represents gratitude for a new dawn and new beginnings.
After offering water and prayers, the fast is broken with prasad, marking the end of Chhath Puja. Families then celebrate together, sharing blessings and sweets.
