Defence Cyber Agency Launches ‘Cyber Suraksha’ Exercise to Boost Cybersecurity Readiness

The Defence Cyber Agency, under the Integrated Defence Staff Headquarters, launched ‘Cyber Suraksha’, a multi-phase cybersecurity training exercise, on June 16, 2025. The 12-day program aims to simulate real-world cyber threats and train over 100 participants from various national defence and security agencies in cyber defence, resilience, and leadership decision-making in cyber warfare environments.

Why in News?

The exercise was inaugurated on June 16, 2025, and is set to conclude on June 27, 2025. It has drawn attention due to its scale, leadership participation, and real-world simulation approach, making it a landmark move in India’s ongoing efforts to strengthen national cybersecurity, especially in the defence sector.

Objectives & Features of Cyber Suraksha

• Organized by: Defence Cyber Agency under Integrated Defence Staff HQ, Ministry of Defence.
• Duration: 12 Days – From June 16 to June 27, 2025.
• Participants: 100+ personnel from national agencies and stakeholders in defence and security domains.

Aim

• To simulate real-world cyberattacks and test defensive response capabilities.
• Promote a cybersecurity-first culture in the defence ecosystem.
• Train both technical experts and leadership (CISOs) in cyber response.

• Simulated Cyber Attack Scenarios: Participants will undergo gamified, high-paced, threat simulation modules to enhance practical skills.

CISOs Conclave

• A Chief Information Security Officers’ leadership conclave is integrated into the program, featuring
• Talks by cyber experts
• A Table-Top Exercise to simulate decision-making during cyber crises

Phased Training

• Combines structured learning modules, dynamic hands-on challenges, and evaluation sessions.
• Encourages decisive action under pressure.

Strategic Importance

• As cyber threats become more sophisticated, such exercises ensure that India’s armed forces are technologically prepared and tactically trained.

• The Ministry stated plans to regularly conduct such exercises to ensure a state of cyber readiness across all levels.
