DRDO and the Indian Navy successfully tested the indigenous Air Droppable Container ADC-150 from a P-8I aircraft. This successful trials were conducted off the coast of Goa between February 21 and March 1, 2026. DRDO Air Droppable Container ADC-150 test involved four in flight release trials carried out under different extreme conditions. This tests confirmed that the container system can safely drop essential supplies from aircraft to ships operating far away in the ocean.
Indigenous Air Droppable Container ADC-150 System
The Air Droppable Container ADC-150 developed by DRDO is specially designed to deliver payloads of up to 150 kilograms.
This system allows aircraft to drop critical supplies directly to naval ships operating in remote areas of the ocean.
The DRDO indigenous air droppable container system can carry the variety of important materials including medical supplies, technical equipment, food and other emergency stores.
This capability will help the naval forces to support the ships that are deployed in blue water regions far from the coastline.
Role of P-8I Aircraft in the DRDO Air Droppable Container Trials
The P-8I aircraft of the Indian Navy has played a key role in the testing of the Air Droppable Container ADC-150 system.
The aircraft conducted multiple in flight release trials to test the reliability and accuracy of the supply delivery mechanism.
These tests were carried out under different release conditions and operational scenarios to ensure the system functions effectively during real missions.
The successful trials demonstrated that the DRDO air droppable container from the P 8I aircraft can deliver supplies accurately to naval ships.
Operational Benefits of Air Droppable Container For Indian Navy
The DRDO Air Droppable Container ADC-150 system will significantly improve the operational capabilities of the Indian Navy, particularly during emergency and rescue situations at sea.
This technology will allow the navy to deliver,
- Medical supplies for injured personnel
- Critical spare parts and equipment
- Food and essential logistics materials
Indigenous Defense Technology Development
According to the Ministry of Defense the ADC-150 system for the P-8I aircraft was developed and qualified within a relatively short time to meet the operational requirements of the Indian Navy.
All the developmental flight trials have now been completed successfully.
After these trials, the DRDO Air Droppable Container ADC-150 is expected to be inducted into the Indian Navy soon.
