EAM Jaishankar Receives Book ‘India’s Nuclear Titans’

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar received a copy of the book ‘India’s Nuclear Titans,’ edited by Soumya Awasthi and Shrabana Barua. The book traces the evolution of India into a nuclear state while highlighting the pivotal roles played by renowned figures like Homi Bhabha, Vikram Sarabhai, Abdul Kalam, and K. Subrahmanyam, among others.

Recognizing Contributions of Nuclear Titans

Upon receiving the book, Jaishankar emphasized the importance of recognizing the contributions of these nuclear titans by the emerging generations. He expressed the significance of acknowledging their pioneering efforts in shaping India’s nuclear program.

India’s Nuclear Story

The book ‘India’s Nuclear Titans’ aims to provide a comprehensive yet concise overview of India’s nuclear journey. It explores the challenges and milestones encountered along the way, as the country transformed into a nuclear state.

Kakrapar Atomic Power Station

In February 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Kakrapar Atomic Power Station (KAPS) in Surat and dedicated to the nation two Pressurised Heavy Water Reactors (PHWRs), KAPS-3 and KAPS-4. Built by the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL), these projects have a cumulative capacity of 1400 megawatts and are the largest indigenous PHWRs in India.

Advanced Safety Features

According to official releases, the KAPS-3 and KAPS-4 reactors are the first-of-their-kind in India, incorporating advanced safety features that are comparable to the best in the world. These reactors were constructed at a cost of more than Rs. 22,500 crore, showcasing India’s commitment to developing safe and efficient nuclear power generation capabilities.
