Rubin completed his schooling at Horace Greeley High School and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science from Utica College in 1986.

Career Beginnings

Rubin started his career as a robotics engineer at Carl Zeiss AG from 1986 to 1989. He then worked as a manufacturing engineer at Apple from 1989 to 1992. At Apple, his love for robots earned him the nickname “Android,” which later became the name of his famous mobile operating system.

Founding Android

In 1999, Rubin co-founded a company called Danger Inc., which created the T-Mobile Sidekick, an early smartphone. After leaving Danger in 2013, he founded Android Inc., a company focused on making an advanced mobile operating system. Google acquired Android Inc. in 2005, and Rubin continued to develop Android under Google.

Success with Google
