Google Founders: Larry Page and Sergey Brin
Larry Page and Sergey Brin, the co-founders of Google, wield profound influence in the realms of technology and the internet. These visionary minds not only transformed information retrieval but laid the foundation for innovations that have shaped the digital era. This article explores the captivating narrative of Page and Brin, from their humble origins to the creation of Google and the enduring global impact they have made.
Early Life and Education
Larry Page
Larry Page was born on 26th March, 1973, in Lansing, Michigan, to a family with diverse religious backgrounds. His father was a computer science professor and his mother was a computer programming instructor. Growing up in a tech-filled home, Page was drawn to computers from a young age, becoming the first in his elementary school to submit assignments using the word processor. He pursued a degree in computer engineering at the University of Michigan, where he also created an innovative inkjet printer. Page later earned a master’s degree in computer science from Stanford University.
Sergey Brin
Sergey Brin was born on 21st August, 1973, in Moscow, Soviet Union. Sergey received early education at Paint Branch Montessori School, continued learning mathematics and Russian at home and later attended Eleanor Roosevelt High School. He pursued a Bachelor of Science in computer science at the University of Maryland, graduating with honors at age 19. Brin then pursued graduation in computer science at Stanford University, receiving an M.S. in 1995.
Search Engine Development
Larry Page and Sergey Brin, while pursuing their computer science PhD at Standford University, embarked on a ground-breaking journey to revolutionize the way we access the information on the internet. They conceptualized and developed the PageRank algorithm, a system that assessed the importance of web pages based on the number and quality of backlinks. This innovation led to the creation of their search engine project, initially named “BlackRub.” By utilizing spare computer parts and their programming skills, Page and Brin transformed their dorm roots into makeshift laboratories, building a search engine project that became the foundation for Google. Their work, outlined in a seminal research paper, marked a pivotal moment in the history of the World Wide Web, significantly enhancing the accessibility and relevance of online information.
The Birth of Google
The name “Google” itself play on the mathematical term “googol,” which represents the number 1 followed by 100 zeros, emphasizing the vastness of the information they aimed to index.
In September 1998, Larry Page and Sergey Brin officially incorporated Google Inc. in a garage in Menlo Park, California. Google quickly gained popularity due to its efficient search results. This marked the beginning of a digital revolution that reshaped the way we access and utilize information.
On 27th September 2023, we celebrate a quarter-century i.e. 25th birth anniversary of this tech giant’s transformative impact on the digital landscape. From humble beginnings to shaping how we navigate the internet, Google’s innovations continue to shape our world and redefine possibilities.
