Govt Partners with Sri Aurobindo Society to Support Inclusive Education

On July 7, 2025, the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD) signed an MoU with the Sri Aurobindo Society (SAS) in New Delhi. The agreement aims to promote inclusive education for children with disabilities by providing training and useful tools to teachers and education workers. This step supports the goals of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPwD) Act, 2016.

A Step Towards Inclusive Education

The MoU is part of a special project called ‘Project Inclusion’, which will be run by Sri Aurobindo Society through its Rupantar Programme. The project will offer training programs through a mobile app and a website, making it easier for teachers, school counselors, and education workers to learn how to support children with disabilities in regular schools.

After completing the training, participants will receive e-certificates, and new teaching tools will also be introduced. The aim is to make classrooms friendlier and more inclusive for all children, regardless of their abilities.

Fulfilling the RPwD Act, 2016

This project supports the RPwD Act, 2016, especially Sections 16, 17, and 47, which talk about giving children with disabilities equal access to quality education in inclusive settings. The partnership will help schools, teachers, and rehabilitation professionals understand how to better include these children in everyday learning.

The MoU is also part of a larger plan to reach even remote areas like Leh, through a special Leh Inclusion Initiative. This shows the government’s effort to bring equal opportunities to all parts of India.

Research and Future Plans

Along with training, the Sri Aurobindo Society will also carry out research and development to improve the quality of inclusive education. This includes studying new teaching methods and creating useful educational materials. These efforts will help make inclusive education more effective and accessible.

The project is expected to have a long-term impact by building a strong support system for teachers and ensuring that no child is left behind because of a disability.
