Guru Purnima is considered to be a religious Hindu festival which holds a significance place in Hindu religion. As per Drik Panchang, Guru Purnima is celebrated every year on Purnima day i.e. full moon day in the month of Ashadha i.e. from July to August and the Guru Purnima 2023 is being celebrated on 3rd July 2023. Guru Purnima expresses the Guru-Shishya relations across India, Nepal and Bhutan. Guru Purnima is not just only a Hindu festival it is also celebrated by Buddhists and even Jainis with the same zeal.
Significance of Guru Purnima
Guru Purnima is an auspicious day on which people used to worship their Guru’s. This day mainly expresses the relation of Guru and Shishya. On this special day, people take the blessings of their Guru. Guru serves an important place in everyone’s life, they show the right path to their shishyas. They enlighten our path by their teachings and knowledge. Guru encourages us to do right things and always follow the path of truth by giving illusions. Guru remove the darkness that comes in our life with their blessings and guidance.
Without a Guru, it is difficult to be a good person. To lead a good life, one must have a Guru. People always used to take the blessings from their Gurus before doing any good work. Guru contributes to make us a good human by teach us about the humanity. Guru acts as a spiritual advisor, counsellor, teacher, leader, protector, healer and upholder of Dharma.
Why do we celebrate Guru Purnima?
According to the Hindu mythology, it is believed that there was a sage named Parashar and his son was born on this auspicious day who was aware about all the kaals i.e. bhootkaal, vartmaan kaal and bhavishya kaal. He edited the four Vedas into four parts to spread the knowledge as he knew people would become spiritually and religious inactive. That’s why he is called as ancient Guru and his birthday is celebrated as Guru Purnima.

Guru Purnima rituals:
• Wake up early in the morning and take the blessings of mother and father by touching their feet as they are the first Guru of life.
• Take bath and worship the god and goddess.
• Recite Guru mantra.
• Those who have their spiritual Guru should take their blessings by touching their feet.
• Offer clothes, fruits and dakshina on this auspicious day of Guru Purnima.
