In a significant move aimed at addressing the mental health needs of armed forces personnel and their families, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) and the Ministry of Defence (MoD) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This collaboration establishes a dedicated Tele MANAS cell, the digital extension of the District Mental Health Programme (DMHP), to provide comprehensive, integrated, and inclusive 24/7 tele-mental health services.
MoU Signing and Inauguration
The MoU was signed to operate a special Tele MANAS cell as a pilot project for two years at the Armed Forces Medical College in Pune. In December 2023, the special Tele MANAS Cell was inaugurated by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Anil Chauhan, marking a significant milestone in addressing the mental health concerns of armed forces personnel and their families.
Direct Access to Specialized Care
With the establishment of the Tele MANAS cell, armed forces beneficiaries will have direct access to specialized mental health care, ensuring prompt and effective support for their unique mental health needs. This initiative aims to provide crucial assistance round the clock, enhancing the overall mental well-being of armed forces personnel and their families.
Significance and Impact
The collaboration underscores the significance of addressing the mental health concerns of the armed forces, recognizing their distinct requirements in this regard. By leveraging tele-mental health services through Tele MANAS, the initiative strives to bridge gaps in mental health support, fostering resilience and enhancing the overall quality of life for armed forces personnel and their families.
