India Begins Tri-Service Exercise ‘Ex Trishul’ with IAF and Navy Across Western Front

India has launched a massive military exercise named ‘Trishul’ along its western border with Pakistan, bringing together the Army, Navy, and Air Force for joint operations. The exercise aims to strengthen coordination, improve combat readiness, and test the country’s ability to respond effectively to regional security challenges through combined defence strategies.

Objective of the Exercise

The main goal of the Trishul exercise is to enhance coordination, communication, and mission readiness among the three military branches. It aims to improve interoperability — the ability of different forces to operate together effectively during real combat situations.

Where and When It is Being Held?

The large-scale exercise is being conducted from October 30 to November 10, 2025, across the states of Gujarat and Rajasthan. These areas share a long and strategically important border with Pakistan, making them ideal for testing combat readiness and border defence planning.

Phases of the Exercise

The Trishul exercise is taking place in three phases, each led by a different service:

  • The Indian Navy is leading the first phase, focusing on coastal defence and sea-air coordination.
  • The Indian Army heads the second phase, testing land-based combat and armoured operations.
  • The Indian Air Force takes charge of the final phase, focusing on air superiority and long-range strike capabilities.

The Border Security Force (BSF) and Indian Coast Guard are also participating as support forces, reflecting a comprehensive approach to national security.

Scale and Strength of the Exercise

Over 20,000 troops are participating in this exercise, supported by:

  • T-90S and Arjun tanks
  • Attack helicopters and missile systems
  • Rafale and Sukhoi-30MKI fighter jets
  • A fleet of frigates and destroyers from the Navy

These assets together simulate real battlefield conditions, allowing India’s forces to practice joint operations and coordinated responses.

Focus on Joint Command and Technology

According to defence officials, the Trishul exercise demonstrates India’s commitment to developing integrated command structures — systems where the Army, Navy, and Air Force operate under joint leadership. It also emphasizes technological cooperation and information-sharing among the three services, ensuring faster and smarter responses in emergencies.

Regional Reactions

Interestingly, just before the exercise began, Pakistan announced changes to certain flight routes over the Karachi and Lahore regions, indicating heightened awareness of India’s military activity.

Earlier this month, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had warned that any aggression in the Sir Creek region would be met with a “strong and historic response.” His statement came as a reminder of India’s determination to protect its borders and maintain regional peace through strength.
