India-Mongolia joint military exercise "Nomadic Elephant

A group of 43 Indian Army personnel departed for Mongolia today to take part in the 15th edition of the joint military exercise called “NOMADIC ELEPHANT-23.” The exercise is set to occur in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia from July 17th to July 31st, 2023. NOMADIC ELEPHANT is an annual training event between India and Mongolia, held alternately in both countries. The previous edition took place in October 2019 at the Special Forces Training School in Bakloh, India.

Strengthening Bonds and Counter-Terrorism Operations

Mongolian Armed Forces Unit 084 and soldiers from the JAMMU AND KASHMIR LIGHT INFANTRY Regiment of the Indian Army will be jointly participating in the exercise. The Indian Army contingent arrived in Ulaanbaatar on July 16, 2023, via an Indian Air Force C-17 aircraft. The main objective of this exercise is to strengthen positive military relations, share best practices, enhance inter-operability, and foster camaraderie, bonhomie, and friendship between the two armies. The exercise’s primary focus will be on conducting counter-terrorism operations in mountainous terrain, following the mandates of the United Nations.

Indo-Mongolian Troops Enhancing Skills and Cooperation

The exercise encompasses a Platoon level Field Training Exercise (FTX) where Indian and Mongolian troops will partake in diverse training activities to elevate their skills and capabilities. These activities encompass endurance training, reflex firing, room intervention, small team tactics, and rock craft training. The soldiers from both nations will exchange their operational experiences and learn from one another.

India and Mongolia have a shared commitment to regional security and cooperation. Exercise NOMADIC ELEPHANT-23 will be yet another significant milestone in the defence cooperation between the Indian Army and Mongolian Army which will further foster bilateral relations between the two nations.
