India to Induct 300-km Range Pinaka Missile System

India is on the verge of significantly enhancing its artillery capabilities with the upcoming induction of new long-range variants of the Pinaka multi-barrel rocket launcher system, capable of hitting targets up to 300 km away. Developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), these new systems will support precision strikes, faster deployment, and greater firepower, marking a major leap in India’s self-reliant defence posture.

Why in News?

The DRDO Chairman Dr. Samir V. Kamat recently announced that India will soon begin manufacturing upgraded Pinaka systems with ranges of 120 km and 300 km, following successful trials of the Guided Pinaka version. These systems are expected to be inducted into the Indian Army within 3–5 years, contributing significantly to India’s battlefield capabilities and aligning with the country’s broader push for indigenization in defence.
