Indian Air Force and Navy Participate in Mega Multinational War Games

The Indian Air Force (IAF) has deployed its formidable Rafale fighter jets for the two-week multinational air exercise Red Flag, which commenced on May 30 in Alaska. The IAF contingent, supported by IL-78 air-to-air refuelers and C-17 transport aircraft, arrived at the Eielson Air Force Base in the United States for the advanced aerial combat training exercise.

The primary objective of Exercise Red Flag is to integrate aircrew in a multinational environment, providing realistic training in a simulated combat environment. In addition to the eight Rafale fighters, the IAF has deployed three C-17 transport aircraft and two IL-78 mid-air refueling aircraft for the exercise.

Indian Navy Participates in RIMPAC Exercise in Hawaii

Simultaneously, the Indian Navy is deploying the indigenous stealth frigate INS Shivalik for the biennial Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) exercise, scheduled to be held in Hawaii from June 25 to August 2. This deployment aims to enhance the degree of interoperability with the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force, the U.S. Navy, and other partner navies participating in RIMPAC 24.

RIMPAC 2024 is the 29th edition of the world’s largest international maritime exercise, which began in 1971. Approximately 29 nations, 40 surface ships, three submarines, 14 national land forces, over 150 aircraft, and more than 25,000 personnel will participate in this year’s exercise.

Enhancing Interoperability and Combat Readiness

These multinational war games provide invaluable opportunities for the Indian Armed Forces to enhance their interoperability with allies and partners, exchange tactics, techniques, and procedures, and improve their overall combat readiness.

The participation of the IAF’s Rafale fighters and the Indian Navy’s indigenous stealth frigate INS Shivalik in these exercises showcases India’s commitment to strengthening its military capabilities and fostering global partnerships to maintain peace and stability in the region.
