Indian Army Appoints New Commanders for Southern, Eastern, and Western Commands

Indian Army has appointed the several new commanders to the its three major operational formations which are Southern, Eastern and Western Commands on the 1st April, 2026. on April 1, 2026. The transition is coming at that time where India looking to on the operational readiness with technological integration and strategic preparedness. These newly appointed commanders are expected to strengthen the Indian Army’s capabilities.

Lt Gen Sandeep Jain Takes Charge of Southern Command

Lt Gen Sandeep Jain has assumed the command of the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) in the Southern Command.

He is an alumnus of the National Defense Academy (NDA) and he was commissioned into the Mahar Regiment in June 1988.

He had the nearly four decades of service experience and he had held the roles including the,

• Command of the infantry units in different terrains
• Also part of the service in United Nations Mission in South Sudan
• Played the leadership roles in counter-insurgency operations

Before of this appointment he served as the Chief of Staff in the Southern Command.

Lt Gen VMB Krishnan Assumes Eastern Command

LT Gen VMB Krishnan has taken over as the position of GOC-in-C in the Eastern Command. he will be succeed the Lt Gen RC Tiwari.

He was commissioned into the service in June 1988 and also brings the extensive operational experience. And played the crucial part in particularly in high-altitude and also the sensitive regions like Siachen.

He also served as the Quarter Master General in that role he led the major reforms in logistics and infrastructure.

Lt Gen Pushpendra Pal Singh Leads Western Command

Lt Gen Pushpendra Pal Singh has took the charge as the GOC-in-C in the Western Command. Right now it is the most strategically critical formations for the defense.

He was officer of the Parachute Regiment (Special Forces) and he was commissioned in the December 1987. He also had served in the multiple high-risk operational areas.
