Defense sector of the India has achieved the historic milestone as the defense exports reached the all-time high of ₹38,424 crore in FY 2025-26. With this it is marking the sharp 62.66% growth from the FY2-24-25 year. It showcased the major transformation in country’s manufacturing ecosystem and which is mainly driven by the policy reforms along with the increased private participation and the strong global demand.
India’s Defense Exports Surge: What the Latest Data Shows
The latest figures for this year indicates the strong rising trajectory in India’s defense exports.
FY26 exports: ₹38,424 crore
FY25 exports: ₹23,622 crore
Growth rate: 62.66%
This sharp rise in the percentage signals the shift from India who was being as primarily an importer of defense equipment to becoming the competitive exporter in the world.
DPSUs Lead the Growth Story
A major portion of this growth was driven by the Defense Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs).
Under the DPSU exports worth of ₹21,071 crore and in growth it is 151% increase from the previous year.
Also the share in total exports by the DPSU is around 54.84% of the total export value.
These state-owned enterprises have boosted the production and expand their global reach to the various nation.
Private Sector Gains Momentum
The private sector is also playing the important role in the defense exports.
- Exports by private firms: ₹17,353 crore
- Growth By Private firms: Around 14%
- Total Share In market: 45.16%
Expanding Global Reach
Defense products of India are now exported to more than80 countries and inscribes the growing international trust in Indian-made defense products.
Additionally the number of defense exporters were also increased from 128 to 145.
This expansion of the the products reflects India’s growing credibility in the global defense supply chain.
