Maharashtra Budget 2026: Big Loan Waiver for Farmers and Major Development Plans Announced

The Maharashtra Budget 2026-27 was presented by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. He represented because of he also holds the Finance portfolio in the state assembly on March 6 2026. Farm Loan Waiver Announced in Maharashtra Budget 2026

A major highlight of the Maharashtra Budget 2026 is the loan waiver scheme for farmers. Those Farmers with loans up to ₹2 lakh taken before September 3 2025 will receive loan waivers. The Loan Waiver scheme is called the Punyashlok Ahilyabai Holkar Farmers Loan Waiver Scheme.

Around 28-30 lakh farmers are expected to benefit from the initiative. Those Farmers who have regularly repaid their loans will receive ₹50,000 as an incentive. The state government has introduced a Farmer ID under Agristack to ensure benefits reach genuine farmers. The Maharashtra Budget 2026 part aims to reduce financial pressure on farmers and support agricultural development.

Agriculture and Rural Development Focus

The Maharashtra Budget 2026 put the strong emphasis on agriculture and rural growth. The state planning to the increase the agricultural economy from $55 billion to $500 billion. For this Natural Farming Mission will bring 5 lakh hectares under natural farming.

AI technologies like Mahavistar chatbot will help farmers with weather updates, crop disease information and market prices. Also new feature like Tribal languages will also be integrated into the platform.

The government also plans to strengthen livestock and fisheries sectors through dedicated schemes. These initiatives aim to modernize agriculture using technology and digital tools.

Infrastructure and Urban Development Announcements

Infrastructure development is another major component of the Maharashtra Budget 2026. Around Over 1000 km of metro lines and 6000 km of two lane highways will be developed.

All villages in Maharashtra with more than 1000 population will be connected with concrete roads. Also Signal Free traffic corridor from Sewri to Coastal Road is expected by September 2026. The state government plans to build Mumbai 3.0 and Mumbai 4.0 development zones to expand the metropolitan region.

A startup and innovation hub will be developed in Wadala.

Renewable Energy, Tourism and Industry Initiatives

The Maharashtra Budget 2026 also includes initiatives to boost renewable energy, tourism and industrial development.

  • ₹20,000 crore allocated for solar power projects for farmers. And Subsidies will be provided for rooftop solar panels under housing schemes.
  • The Tourism target set for the state to increase visitors from 16 crore to 38 crore.
  • A Global Competence Centre policy aims to establish 400 centres and create 4 lakh jobs.
  • Bamboo Industry Policy aims to attract ₹50,000 crore investment and create 5 lakh jobs.
