President David Adeang stated that now the official name corresponds with the spelling and pronunciation used in the Nauruan language. It is important to note that with the new name, the country will also receive a new international code and a new national identity. What Happened?
The Pacific nation of Nauru is now known as the Republic of Naoero, according to President David Adeang. The name reflects the local pronunciation and spelling of the country in the native language instead of the former anglicized name that has been used for many years.
After extensive consultations, the parliamentary change was approved by the necessary vote, and the government opted not to hold a public referendum.
Why Was the Name of Nauru Changed?
