NHAI Partners with Reliance Jio to Launch Mobile-Based Safety Alert System on National Highways

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has signed an MoU with Reliance Jio to introduce a new mobile-based safety alert system for highway travellers. This system will warn drivers about risky spots on highways using Jio’s strong 4G and 5G network. The aim is to reduce accidents and help people drive more safely.

How the New Highway Alert System will Work?

Under this initiative, alerts will be sent directly to users’ mobile phones when they are close to danger zones. These warnings will pop up through SMS, WhatsApp messages, and high-priority calls, ensuring that drivers receive the information instantly.

Types of Alerts Drivers will Receive

Travellers will be warned about several risk-prone places, including:

  • Accident-prone stretches
  • Areas where stray animals are often seen
  • Fog-affected regions
  • Emergency diversions or blockages

These alerts will help drivers slow down and adjust their driving before entering hazardous areas.

Integration with NHAI’s Digital Platforms

The system will soon be linked with NHAI’s digital tools, such as:

  • ‘Rajmargyatra’ mobile app
  • Highway emergency helpline number 1033

This integration will be done step-by-step to make the system smoother and more helpful for commuters.

No Extra Roadside Equipment

One of the biggest advantages of this project is that it uses Jio’s existing telecom towers. This makes the setup quick, simple, and cost-effective because no additional roadside devices are required.

System will Work for All Jio Users on Highways

The automated alert system will work for every Jio mobile user travelling on or near National Highways. With Jio serving over 500 million customers, the system covers a very large number of road users, strengthening overall safety.

NHAI Plans to Partner with Other Telecom Operators

NHAI has also announced that similar collaborations will be taken up with other telecom companies. This will ensure that travellers using all mobile networks can get real-time safety alerts in the future.
