PM's Office to be Renamed Seva Teerth in Governance Reform Push

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) is slated to be renamed Seva Teerth, a title meant to reflect the government’s emphasis on citizen-first governance and public service. According to sources, the new name conveys a message that the PMO is not merely a seat of authority but a place where national priorities are shaped and service to the people is central.

A Name Symbolising Service and Responsibility

Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, several institutional spaces have been renamed to project values of kartavya (duty), seva (service) and transparency. Seva Teerth, described by sources as a “workplace embodying the spirit of service,” aligns with this thematic shift.

Renaming Movement Extends Beyond the PMO

The renaming trend reflects a deeper attempt at reframing governance identity:

Raj Bhavans, the residences of Governors, are being renamed Lok Bhavans to emphasise connection with the people.
The Prime Minister’s residence was renamed Lok Kalyan Marg in 2016, distinguishing welfare over exclusivity.
Rajpath—historically associated with imperial power—became Kartavya Path, stressing that governing authority is a responsibility, not entitlement.
Central Secretariat is now Kartavya Bhavan, symbolising commitment to public service.
