The Punjab government has started a major healthcare scheme called Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana. Under this scheme, every family in the state will get free and cashless medical treatment worth up to ₹10 lakh. The aim is to make quality healthcare available to all residents without worrying about hospital expenses.
Who Launched the Scheme?
The scheme was officially launched in Mohali by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann along with AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal. Both leaders said the scheme would bring a big change in Punjab’s healthcare system and help people from all income groups.
Who will Get the Benefit?
This health insurance scheme will cover all 65 lakh families of Punjab, which means nearly three crore people will benefit.
Any resident of Punjab who has:
- An Aadhaar card
- A Voter ID card
can avail the benefits of this scheme. There is no income limit, which makes it different from earlier health schemes.
Free Treatment Up to Rs.10 Lakh
Each family will get cashless treatment up to ₹10 lakh per year. This treatment can be taken at:
- Government hospitals
- Selected private hospitals
Patients will not have to pay money at the hospital for approved treatments.
Wide Range of Medical Treatments Covered
The scheme includes more than 2,350 medical treatment packages, which is much higher than earlier schemes.
Major treatments covered include:
- Heart diseases (Cardiology)
- Cancer treatment (Oncology)
- Brain and nerve problems (Neurology)
- Kidney treatment (Nephrology)
- Bone and joint care (Orthopaedics)
- General medicine
- Urology and other specialised services
This ensures that even expensive treatments are now affordable for common people.
Hospitals Included Under the Scheme
At present, around 850 government and private hospitals across Punjab have been included under the scheme. The government plans to add more hospitals in the coming days to increase access, especially in rural and semi-urban areas.
Health Cards for Every Family
To use the benefits, health cards will be issued to all eligible families. These cards can be obtained through:
- Facilitation centres
- Common Service Centres (CSCs)
- Online registration
Youth club members will also help by going door to door to assist families in getting their health cards.
What Leaders Said About the Scheme?
Arvind Kejriwal called the launch a historic moment for Punjab. He said Punjab has now become the first state to offer:
- Free healthcare
- Free education
- Free electricity
- Free bus travel for women
He added that the scheme fulfills AAP’s promise of providing free and quality healthcare to every citizen.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said the scheme is meant for everyone, including government employees and pensioners. He said healthcare should be a right, not a luxury, and no one should suffer due to lack of money.
A Big Step Towards Better Healthcare
The Punjab government believes that the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana will reduce financial stress on families and ensure timely treatment. By removing income limits and including private hospitals, the scheme sets a new standard for public healthcare in India.
This initiative is expected to improve health outcomes, save lives, and make Punjab a model state for universal healthcare.
