Railways signs pact with US agency to boost clean energy solutions

The Ministry of Railways in India has entered into an agreement with the US Agency for International Development (USAID) to accelerate the progress of eco-friendly energy solutions and encourage the use of electric vehicles. The memorandum of understanding (MoU) aims to foster cooperation in renewable energy and energy efficiency. The objective is to integrate clean energy sources into the operations of Indian Railways. The collaborating entities will jointly develop a customized energy efficiency policy and action plan for the buildings of Indian Railways.

The partnership also aims to simplify the acquisition of clean energy solutions that align with Indian Railways’ ambitious goal of attaining net-zero carbon emissions.

USAID’s expertise will be leveraged to design and oversee bids for renewable energy procurement projects on a large scale, with a focus on ensuring compatibility with the existing system. Moreover, USAID will provide support to Indian Railways in promoting e-mobility, facilitating the integration of electric vehicles into the railway network.
  • The MoU also encompasses joint initiatives such as hosting events, conferences, and capacity-building programs. These activities will facilitate knowledge sharing and offer opportunities for field visits and study tours, both domestically and internationally.
