Sanjeev Jain Appointed as India’s New Ambassador to North Korea

India appointed Sanjeev Jain, an Indian Foreign Service (IFS) office, as new Ambassador to North Korea. This announcement was made public by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on July 6, 2026. Jain will take on this new diplomatic appointment soon after completing his current assignment as India’s Ambassador to Cabo Verde.

MEA Announces the Appointment of Sanjeev Jain

The Ministry of External Affairs has declared the appointment of Sanjeev Jain (Indian Foreign Service, 2008 batch) as the Ambassador of India to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), popularly known as North Korea.

As per the ministry statement, the appointment of Jain follows the completion of his diplomatic formalities and he will be assuming the new role in a few weeks.

Who Is Sanjeev Jain?

Sanjeev Jain is a 2008 batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer with strong experience in diplomacy and international relations.

Prior to this position, he was,

Ambassador of India to the Republic of Cabo Verde, an island country in the western coast of Africa.

As a diplomat, Jain represented India in different ways and played a significant role in promoting India’s bilateral relations with various countries.
