Spices Board Launches SPICED Scheme to Boost Spice Exports and Productivity

The Spices Board of India has introduced the SPICED scheme, a strategic initiative to enhance spice exports and productivity. This scheme, officially named ‘Sustainability in Spice Sector through Progressive, Innovative and Collaborative Interventions for Export Development,’ will be implemented throughout the remainder of the 15th Finance Commission cycle.

Objective and Focus

The primary goal of SPICED is to significantly improve the export of spices and value-added spice products. It aims to upgrade the post-harvest quality of spices to meet international standards and enhance cardamom productivity. The scheme will implement various programs to achieve these objectives, focusing on innovation and sustainability within the spice sector.

Cardamom Productivity Programs

Specific initiatives under SPICED include replanting efforts and quality production programs for both small and large cardamom varieties. These measures are designed to boost cardamom yields and ensure high standards of product quality for export markets.
