Sports Ministry Notifies Rules for National Sports Board and Tribunal Under Governance Reform Act

India’s Sports Ministry has notified the operational rules for the National Sports Board (NSB) and the National Sports Tribunal (NST). The Union Sports Ministry has officially released the operational framework for the two major institutions under the National Sports Governance Act which was passed last year.

These includes the National Sports Board, which will regulate the governance standards in sports bodies and the National Sports Tribunal which will act as the specialized legal body for the sports disputes.

What Is the National Sports Board?

The National Sports Board (NSB) will function as the main oversight body for the governance and compliance in Indian sports organizations.

  • 3-year tenure
  • Maximum age limit: 65 years

For tribunal appointments, one important condition has been added.

If the Chairperson or member is the serving judge of the Supreme Court or High Court, they must have to,

Resign from the current service, or take the voluntary retirement before joining.

This will ensures the independence and avoids conflicts of interest.
