The Indian Navy is all set to participate in the second edition of the India-Mozambique-Tanzania Trilateral Exercise (IMT TRILAT-2024), a joint maritime exercise scheduled from 21-29 March 2024. The Indian Naval Ships INS Tir and INS Sujata will represent India in this trilateral exercise.
Previous Edition
The first edition of the IMT TRILAT exercise was conducted in October 2022, where the Indian Naval Ship INS Tarkash participated alongside the Navies of Tanzania and Mozambique.
Two-Phase Exercise
The current edition of the exercise is planned in two phases:
Harbor Phase (21-24 March)
- INS Tir and INS Sujata will engage with the respective Navies at the ports of Zanzibar (Tanzania) and Maputo (Mozambique).
- This phase will begin with a Planning Conference.
- Joint harbor training activities like Damage Control, Firefighting, Visit Board Search and Seizure (VBSS) procedures, Medical Lectures, Casualty Evacuation, and Diving operations will be conducted.
Sea Phase (24-27 March)
- Practical aspects of countering asymmetric threats, VBSS procedures, boat handling, maneuvers, and firing exercises will be covered.
- A joint Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) surveillance is also planned.
- The exercise will conclude with a joint debrief scheduled at Nacala (Mozambique).
Cultural Exchange and Training
- During the harbor stay, the Indian Naval ships will be open for visitors.
- Sports and cultural exchanges with host Navies are planned.
- Training visits for sea trainees of the 106 Integrated Officers Training Course will take place at the respective ports.
The IMT TRILAT-2024 exercise aims to strengthen cooperation and interoperability between the Indian Navy and its counterparts from Mozambique and Tanzania in various maritime operations and procedures.
