The Government of India has introduced the Sujalam Bharat App to make rural drinking water systems easier to track, manage, and improve. This new digital platform gives citizens and officials access to real-time information about water supply schemes, helping villages understand where their water comes from and how well the system is functioning. The app is designed to bring more transparency, stronger community involvement, and better planning under the Jal Jeevan Mission.
Sujalam Bharat App, Launched by the Ministry of Jal Shakti
Union Minister of Jal Shakti, Shri C.R. Patil, officially launched the Sujalam Bharat App, describing it as a major step in improving rural water services. He highlighted that this platform will help villages take more ownership of their drinking water systems and promote openness in how water schemes are run.
Support from BISAG-N for Advanced Technology
The app has been created with the help of the Bhaskaracharya National Institute for Space Applications and Geo-informatics (BISAG-N). Their team has built advanced geo-referencing tools that allow every water source, pipeline, tank, and scheme to be mapped clearly. This technology will make it easier for officials to monitor the condition and performance of water infrastructure.
Training for States and UTs
After the launch, BISAG-N conducted detailed training sessions for officials from all States and Union Territories. They were guided on how to use the app, upload data, and map water supply assets. This training will help them smoothly shift to a fully digital system.
Sujal Gaon ID: A Unique Identity for Every Water Scheme
One of the strongest features of the Sujalam Bharat platform is the Sujal Gaon ID.
Each village and water scheme will receive this unique ID, making it easier to know:
- Which scheme supplies water to which households
- What the water source is
- How reliable the supply is
- The condition of pipes, tanks, and motors
- Water quality status
- The community’s feedback and maintenance records
This ID works like Aadhaar, but for rural water management, giving every scheme a clear identity in the national database.
A Single Digital View of Every Water Supply System
The Sujalam Bharat Database brings together all important information—water sources, assets, daily operation records, past repairs, and water quality reports—onto one platform. This helps Gram Panchayats, VWSCs (Village Water and Sanitation Committees), and service providers easily track their performance and take quick action whenever needed.
Better Planning and Long-Term Sustainability
The app will store the entire history of each water scheme, including:
- Condition of infrastructure
- Details of repairs and maintenance
- Supply performance over time
Since the system is connected with the PM Gati Shakti GIS platform, it also provides accurate mapping of pipelines and water networks. This will help in planning future repairs or expansions more effectively.
A Big Step Toward a Strong Digital Water System
Officials emphasized that all States and UTs must upload their data on time so that the system can work smoothly. The Sujalam Bharat App is expected to make rural water management more reliable, transparent, and citizen-friendly. It will help ensure that every household continues to get safe and regular drinking water.
Availability of the App
The Sujalam Bharat App will soon be available for download on the Google Play Store.
