UPI Gets Tap-to-Pay and Unified Transaction View Features

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has come up with an innovative digital payment features that will help make transactions via UPI easier, safer and more convenient. These features include tap to pay at PoS terminals, a single window for viewing your UPI transactions and AutoPay mandates and enhanced user security features. Other improvements in the works, revealed during the Global Fintech Fest 2026, include multi-currency foreign exchange services provided by Bharat Connect.

UPI Tap-to-Pay: How Will It Work?

UPI Tap-to-Pay utilizes the Near Field Communication (NFC) technology with help from the relevant smartphone and PoS terminals.

Payments will be possible via various forms of accounts such as the UPI accounts and the RuPay credit card on the UPI network.

As per NPCI, transactions below ₹5,000 do not require a PIN entry. Above ₹5,000 requires PIN to be entered on the PoS terminal.

What Is MyUPI?

With MyUPI, all UPI transactions and AutoPay mandates from various banks and UPI apps will be viewed together.

It also comes with new features aimed at helping users gain better control over their payments. The Safety Switch provided by the platform can help the user block UPI debit transactions if there is an issue regarding the safety of his account.

Also, he can unlink his mobile phone number from any kind of UPI payment and get contextual information during transactions with specific merchants.

Moreover, automated chargebacks will be created in real time through this service for eligible transactions.

Biometric UPI Payments Cross 6.29 Billion

Apart from that, NPCI has made announcements regarding the adoption of biometric verification for payments online. There are 6.29 billion transactions done through biometrics like facial recognition and fingerprints.

This development highlights the increased acceptance of alternative authentication means in addition to traditional UPI PINs.

Multicurrency Foreign Exchange Facility Introduced at Bharat Connect

Furthermore, the RBI has launched a multicurrency foreign exchange facility under the category of forex at Bharat Connect with a controlled user group (CUG) launch.

Managed by NPCI Bharat BillPay Limited, the Bharat Connect system is interoperable with FX-Retail, which is managed by Clearcorp Dealing Systems (India) Limited.

Currently, the multicurrency foreign exchange facility includes Euro, British Pound, Canadian Dollar, Swiss Franc, and UAE Dirham apart from the US dollar.

NPCI intends to expand this facility to other channels of Bharat Connect after assessing the CUG period.
